Newsletter - MWI's First Newsletter

Message from the CEO. Welcome to MWI's first newsletter. This first one is an introduction to MWI, what we see coming down the pipe in terms of the industry, what we do here at MWI, and who is doing it.

The Economy. In August of 2000 I started my first web development firm, Mindwire Interactive. Although you might think that was about the worst time possible to start an interactive agency, we had a pretty good track record for the 2 1/2 years I ran the firm until we sold it in January of 2003. Just the same, I'm somewhat regretful that I didn't start a firm in 1998 so that I could have enjoyed the boom years. The difficult economic circumstances following the stock market peak of March 2000 helped us to run a lean operation and be smarter about where our dollars went, and despite our penny-pinching attitude we were still able to produce high-quality results. However, as much as I'm in favor of gleaning knowledge from tough times, I'm glad to see the economy picking up. June was MWI's best month to date, July promises to be even better, and we're receiving more requests for proposals than ever before so it appears we've got a good pipeline of work ahead of us.

Trends in Web Development. The name of the game today is "redesign." We've seen a lot of companies that haven't touched their website in three or four years, and now they're trying to jump ahead of their competition-or keep from falling behind. The difference today is most companies have moved to a more sophisticated level with their websites. Rather than just having a static website that is little more than an online brochure, they're implementing content management systems so they can update content frequently, send out email newsletters, collect information from site visitors, and provide an all-around more interactive experience. MWI has launched several of these types of sites for clients lately including GoEngineer (see www.goengineer.com). MWI is currently working on websites with similar content management systems for the law firm of Strong and Hanni and medical products manufacturer Ortho Development in Salt Lake City and Server Technology in Reno, Nevada. Look for these new sites to be launched within the next few weeks.

Looking Forward. MWI has several initiatives that will be forthcoming within the next few months, including a new online project management system, a new packaged service offering for real estate developers, and new furniture for the Salt Lake City office (we're really excited about that one). Please don't hesitate to contact me directly if you are interested in receiving a bid from MWI on any web development or marketing project, and we'll see you next month.

Since this is MWI's first newsletter, we thought we'd take this chance to introduce our team.

Chris Taylor. Chris is MWI's Creative Director, and oversees the design process whether it's a new website, brochure, magazine ad, or brand. Chris holds a BFA from Brigham Young University.

Kyle Follett. Kyle is the Interactive Director at MWI and makes sure the websites, CD-ROM projects, and presentations we develop for our clients are properly implemented and conform to high levels of usability.

Kent McLean. Kent manages all aspects of Windows-based programming and database development. He's worked on large projects for companies in the northwest like Microsoft and Safeco and he's brought his expertise to bear on MWI's client base by developing applications using technologies like .NET, SQL Server, and XML.

Mike Sellers. Mike is MWI's resident Linux expert. If it involves Linux, PHP, or MySQL then Mike has his hands in it. Mike is currently working on several ecommerce and content management systems for MWI's clients.

Justin Moses. Justin is an information architect and has been working on-site with Zions Bank on information architecture and user interface projects surrounding a large business banking application.

Peter Carlston. Peter heads up MWI's San Francisco Bay Area office on Sandhill Road. Peter's activities center around business development with the many tech, biotech, and venture capital firms in and surrounding Silicon Valley.

With a lifetime of experience in graphic design and marketing and a Master's Degree in Information Systems Management, Joshua focuses on bringing the best designers and programmers together to produce award-winning work for a premiere clientele.
